Side Effects of Not Sleeping
72Lack of sleep can be very dangerous to our health. Whether lack of sleep is due to our own doing like stay out late at night or to a sleep disorder it must be taken care of as soon as possible. My sister once told me before, I can't remember all what she said but I think the body, rather the organs of the body has a specific time to heal while you are sleeping. That's one of the reason why there is night and day. A certain organ in our bodies correspond to a certain time in the night for healing. I remember what my sister said the early hours just before dawn has something to do with healing of the lungs, but the early part of the night like before midnight is responsible for the kidneys. That's why people is supposed to sleep at or before10 PM.
Many people have sleep disorder without knowing it, they assume that the cause is their noisy children, or because of so many problems, so their illness is left untreated. And this could cause more problems for them.
People deprived of sleep tends to be:
- cognitively impaired - they are less alert and seems there heads are on the clouds.
And because you will be unable to think straight when you are very sleepy, this will affect your daily life, your work, your personal life, and also your driving skill. And you'll be a danger to the public while driving just like DUI. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety the estimated number of car crashes every year caused by drowsy driving is about 100,000.
Long time sleep deprivation can cause more illness such as:
- high blood pressure
- heart attack
- depression or mood disorder
- mental impairment
- lowered immune system
I will also add that, based on my own experience, not having enough sleep causes my immune system to drop and I have experienced most of the above mentioned, except heart attack, (thank God!) plus I develop a thyroid deficiency.
So guys not being able to sleep well in the night is really bad for the body. So if you ever couldn't sleep in the night you have to try to sleep in the daytime.
So I hope to see you all in my next hub, Stay tuned.

Coconuts in the Philippines
The Philippines coconut trees occupy about 25% of the nation’s cultivated lands. Therefore a great percentage of people are partially dependent on coconut farms. The Philippines is the second top producer of coconut products after Indonesia, but it is the top exporter of coconut products in the world.

Lack of sleep is very unhealthy because it may lead you to become physically and mentally lethargic. This means that spending your day will not be eventful or productive since you will be losing your strength as well as interest in gearing to everyday's exciting events.
I deprived myself to sleep doing due to my enthusiasm to finish more hubs, here on HubPages :)
You're sister was right...it is about our body clock. As this jargon states: There's a time for everything, so, is our body..time to work, play and sleep.
To enable to regenerate more healthy cells, 6 to 8 hours of sleep everyday must be followed. But due to the nature of our work or lifestyle, sleep routine is affected.
I've experienced what you've shared...after a year of hubbing, I'm recuperating now. Thanks for sharing and welcome to HubPages!^-^
Good information. As a frequent insomniac I can feel the difference when I do get a good night's sleep. It seems to run in my family to spend 2am -3:30am awake. Oh well, more time to write hubs.
I always work on writing my hubs at night when my wife and kids go to bed. I probably only get 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night. The interesting thing you point out is Thyroid disease. I was diagnosed with Underactive 3 months ago, but now since treated I am able to stay awake longer. I agree that I am very moody at work and in the clouds. I am completely drained. Great hub!
We spend almost a third of our lives sleeping and its during this time that we give our one body a chance to restore itself and charge up our batteries as well as perform many other essential maintenance tasks while we rest. Lack of sleep or sleep deprivation doesn't bid well for us and leads to us under-performing in our daily work and duties, so we really owe it to ourselves to give our bodies the best sleep we can, and if we look after our sleep then our bodies will look after us.
Thanks for sharing this hub and highlighting the importance of getting a good night's sleep.
Frightening.......
I get little sleep.......I am a nighttime girl in a daytime world......rarely going to bed before 3 am, yet my hubby arises at 4:30 am..........
Many times, I just lay down on the sofa, so not to distrub my hubby, who will be rising soon.
I make it through the day, very rarely taking a nap.......what could I accomplish if I had proper rest? Why is it that I refuse sleep? What will I miss? I am much like a child in this.....
This field is wide open!
At my last " check up" or " physical", there was no indication of concerns!
Sleep......the next, frontier!
Good hub Ipeoney, I needed to read this. I will do better with getting more sleep, and getting to bed earlier.
No one seems to know why we need sleep. I think that our minds are sorting through the data...but that's just my guess. And, of course, our body is regenerating when we sleep. Great hub.
I could sleep all day but I don't think that is healthy, either! I try to go to bed before 12 but waking up is soo difficult for me, THE worst part of the day. Then I have my coffee and I'm kind of okay. :) Nice hub! Thanks for sharing!
